Breeding conditions:
|
| Meteorological conditions of spring and summer were close to average in a number of years, which provided optimal conditions for breeding. Lemming numbers were very low, which affected waterfowl breeding success. Buzzards had small clutches, Arctic Skuas nested with low density. Snowy Owls and Arctic Foxes were virtually absent, Pomarine and Long-tailed Skuas did not breed. Waders, gulls, Brent Goose, King Eider were successfully breeding (chicks appearred), Steller's Eiders failed. Red Phalaropes and Little Stints were numerous, despite predation by Skuas in brood-raring period. Broods of Pectoral Sandpipers, Curlew Sandpipers, Turnstones and Grey Plovers were recorded. Spotted Redshank nests were found in the northern part of Delta for the first time.
